The state government has warned all illegal and unlicensed lottery and gaming operators to approach the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority for registration or face prosecution.
Why it matters: On Friday, the Supreme Court nullified the National Lottery Act 2005, ruling that federal lawmakers lacked the powers to legislate on issues relating to lottery and games of chance.
Dig deeper: The state government released a statement on Sunday applauding the decision of the Supreme Court and arguing that it was a victory for the rule of law, federalism and the constitutional rights of states.
Quote: “Lagos remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment for licensed operators. The Lagos State Government remains committed to ensuring that the gaming sector contributes to the State’s economic growth and prosperity of its citizens,” the statement said.
