Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) is set to benefit from a N500 million fund launched by the French government to support Nigerian universities in tackling plastic pollution. The fund, part of the French Embassy’s Waste Management in Nigerian Campuses Project, aims to empower young researchers and institutions with innovative solutions.
Yabatech’s PLASTOGAS Hub project will focus on studying plastic waste disposal patterns, creating optimized collection systems, and promoting recycling. “These projects are scientific and result-oriented, showing that plastic pollution can be tackled even with limited resources,” Head of Cooperation and Cultural Affairs at the French Embassy, Thierry Valentin said.
“The idea is to show the global community that the world could rid its environment of plastic waste with little or no financial resources. We had a lot of good projects but these five have been selected because they are scientific and result-oriented. We want to face the huge question of plastic pollution here in Nigeria; the plan is to show with a few examples that it can work,” He added.
