Commuters in Agege are increasingly alarmed over persistent harassment by hoodlums near Pen Cinema, particularly at the rail tracks beneath the Jubilee Bridge.
The assailants reportedly wait in large numbers to demand money from passersby, often resorting to violence if refused. Timilehin Bakare, a commuter, described the area as “a nightmare,” while Olufemi Adu, a clearing agent who frequents the route, warned that the situation is especially dangerous after dark.
Commuters express frustration, noting that the once-safe passage has become risky due to the growing threat of these aggressive encounters.
Another commuter identified only as Sanmi reported a close call with robbers while attempting to flee an attack at that location.
According to sources, several commuters have fallen victim to robbery and extortion in the area, with these hoodlums brandishng dangerous weapons and seizing valuables from unsuspecting passersby.
Notably, a police team that was once stationed near the location is no longer present. “We used to see officers around the bridge a few months back, but now they’re gone,” said another commuter, who requested anonymity.
