Legislative profile: Olukayode Stephen Ogundipe

 

Olukayode Stephen Ogundipe, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is the lawmaker representing Oshodi-Isolo 1 Constituency in the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.

Early life and education 

Mr. Ogundipe was born in 1964.

He attended All Saints Primary School, Yaba. In 1982, he moved to Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta.

He completed his A-Levels at Abeokuta Grammar School in 1984 and earned an advanced diploma with Grade A in 1986 from Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta. 

By 1989, he had graduated from the University of Ibadan with a degree in psychology.

During his time at the university, he was actively involved in various committees of the Students’ Union and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), according to his official House profile. He also served as the speaker of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

Political career

In 2002, Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Mr. Ogundipe as the executive secretary and chairman of Agege local government.

In 2009, Mr. Ogundipe became the chairman of the Conference of Former Executive Secretaries in Lagos State.

He was the APC flag bearer for the House seat in the 2015 General Election, and in 2019, he became the chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Aspirants (LAHA). 

In the 2023 general election, he was eventually elected as a lawmaker. In the APC primaries, he had defeated the incumbent, Hakeem Olusola Sokunle, who got four votes to his own 20. 

Legislative work

Mr. Ogundipe is the chairman of the House committee on information strategy and security.

In September 2024, he urged Lagos residents to report suspicious activities as part of efforts to improve security in Lagos.
