Mojeed Fatai, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents Ibeju-Lekki 1 in the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.
He was first elected as a member in 2011 and is currently the Chief Whip of the 10th assembly.
Early life
Mr. Fatai was born on February 22, 1973, in Ibeju Lekki. He hails from Bogije, a community within the region.
His educational journey began at Roman Catholic Mission Primary School in Bogije, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1985. He proceeded to Iwerekun Community High School in Lakowe, where he earned his West African School Certificate (W.A.S.C.) in 1991.
In pursuit of higher education, Mr. Fatai obtained a degree in Accounting from Kwara State Polytechnic in 2001. He furthered his academic career by earning a Master’s degree in Finance from Ladoke Akintola University in 2013.
He is a student member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), an associate member of the Accounting Technicians Scheme, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
Mr. Fatai began his professional career in the insurance sector, working for a firm in Marina, Lagos. He was later appointed as the supervisor for works in his local government.
Political career
In 2008, Mr. Mojeed Fatai was appointed as the secretary to the Ibeju Lekki Local Government.
In 2011, he was elected to represent Ibeju-Lekki 1 at the House.
Legislative work
Mr. Fatai has been a member of the House since 2011, earning re-election in 2015, 2019, and 2023. Over the years, he has actively contributed to lawmaking, community empowerment, and infrastructural development.
During his first term, he co-sponsored two significant motions. The first addressed the introduction of new Naira notes and the cashless policy, while the second focused on the dualisation of the Lekki-Epe Express Road. He collaborated on these motions with the then Deputy Speaker, Musibau Kolawole Taiwo.
Mr. Fatai’s expertise in Accounting made him a valuable member of several key committees, including, house service (Vice Chairman), health (Member), public Accounts (Member), women affairs and poverty alleviation (Member), and budget review crew
In addition to his legislative duties, Mr. Fatai has launched various initiatives to empower his constituents. He organized a major empowerment program, distributing grinding machines, sewing machines, hairdressing equipment, and cash gifts. He also focused on community health, hosting an enlightenment program on Lassa Fever, and regularly organized football competitions for the youth. His commitment to education led him to purchase GCE and JAMB forms for students on an annual basis.
Mr. Fatai has also spearheaded several infrastructure projects, including the construction of boreholes in communities like Ibeju and Arapagi, and the provision of relief transformers to over 25 communities.
He collaborated with organizations like the Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation and Senator Gbenga Ashafa to train constituents in soap-making, hairdressing, perfume production, and bag crafting.
The lawmaker influenced the construction of roads, such as Eputu Road, and advocated for urgent repairs on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in 2015.
In 2019, Mr. Fatai chaired a 16-member ad-hoc committee tasked with investigating the procurement of 820 high-occupancy vehicles under the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) by the Ambode administration. The committee also examined other major projects, including the Imota Rice Mill, Oshodi Transport Exchange, and the LED-UK Streetlight project.
Throughout his tenure, the lawmaker has consistently worked on road development in his constituency, including the 950-metre road to Onishon in 2024, and road construction projects from Bogije to Malete, as well as the grading of roads in Igando, Onosa, and Lakowe Phase 2 in 2022.
In 2022, he clarified that his focus remained on lawmaking and serving the people of Ibeju-Lekki Constituency 1, debunking rumors that he was aiming for the position of House Speaker.
In 2023, Mr. Fatai was elected as the House’ Chief Whip, further solidifying his role in legislative leadership.
