Eko Cares: Jubilation As Sanwo-Olu Deploys More Food Palliatives For Lagosians

The Lagos state government has deployed various interventions designed to lessen the burden of Lagosians amid the economic hardship.

In furtherance of the state’s objectives, 500,000 boxes of foodstuff were given for free to LGAs and LCDAs.

According to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 24, the move is to strengthen food security in the state.

Sanwo-Olu said:

“Today, we deployed various interventions designed to lessen the burden of Lagosians amid the economic hardship.

“The interventions – in transportation, education, health and agriculture – are under the umbrella of EKO CARES.

“For six weeks, we have been running the Ounje Eko Sunday market featuring the reduction of food by 25% and it has been a huge success. The Sunday Markets have helped to ensure that people can get food items at highly subsidised rates.

“To drive all these initiatives, we set up a non-partisan Special Dispensation Advisory Council of eminent Nigerians, including rights activists, religious leaders, a youth representative, and opposition party chieftains.

“Today, in furtherance of our objectives, we gave out 500,000 boxes of foodstuff for free to LGAs and LCDAs. This is to strengthen food security in our state as feeding the vulnerable is our duty of care.

“It is important that no Lagosian goes to bed hungry. That is our goal.”
