LASTMA warns motorists against over-speeding on newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has urged drivers to adhere to speed limits on the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge to ensure safety while traveling between the Mainland and other parts of the state.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, emphasized this during a briefing on Wednesday, April 3, with agency officers responsible for the operational areas of the bridge.

Oki highlighted the recent comprehensive repairs on the bridge, making it smooth and attractive for driving.

However, he cautioned against the temptation to exceed speed limits, emphasizing the potential risks and consequences for motorists.

“The government has equipped the bridge with modern facilities to assist drivers in navigating it efficiently,” Oki stated, urging motorists to respect traffic signs and electronic devices and adhere to approved speed limits.

He advised drivers to plan their journeys wisely to avoid unnecessary speeding and ensure safety on the bridge and other roads across the State.

To enhance safety, LASTMA further revealed that they would be an increase in the deployment of personnel, patrols, and recovery vehicles on the bridge to facilitate timely interventions in case of emergencies.

While assuring the public of safety measures, the General Manager warned vehicle owners/drivers to maintain their vehicles properly to prevent any avoidable obstacles that could disrupt traffic flow on the bridge.

Recall that the Commissioner of Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi announced on Saturday that the Third Mainland Bridge will reopen on April 4th, 2024, following extensive repairs.
