Magodo GRA: Lagos Assembly adopts recommendations on alleged invasion

Lagos State House of Assembly has adopted the recommendations of the Committee on Lands on a petition titled: ‘Invasion of Magodo GRA Phase II by the Omo-Onile – A call to avert security threats to lives and property in Magodo GRA Phase II’.

The Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa had mandated the committee to look into the matter and report its findings to the House accordingly.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kazeem Olayinka, stated that the government had acquired the expanse of land from the original landowners for overriding public interest and reneged on the purpose of acquiring the land.

He added that the State Government had compensated the original landowners (Omo-Onile) with the low land at the back of Magodo Estate.

Also the Environmental Impact Assessment EIA bordering on the land and drainages has been carried out by the State government.

The report presented by Hon. Kazeem recommended that the Magodo Residents Association should desist from hindering the landowners access to their land while the Lagos State Building Control Agency LASBCA should immediately remove the fence erected by the Magodo Residents Association in order for the family to have access to their land.

The report also directed residents with buildings that were found to be encroaching on the ancestral owners’ own should revert back to the original government approved layout of the Magodo scheme to avoid demolition of the property by LABSCA.

Following the presentation of the report, the lawmakers through voice vote adopted the recommendations of the Committee as the resolution of the House.
