As the second term of the 2023/2024 academic year kicks off, school proprietors in Lagos State have urged parents to actively engage in monitoring their children’s academic performance.

In conversations with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, Mrs. Gloria Chukwuma-Okoh, the Proprietress of Gap Fillers Academy, Agboju, stressed the necessity for parents to invest time in overseeing their children’s academic activities.

She noted that many students, particularly in primary and secondary schools, sometimes display indifference towards their studies, necessitating supervision both at school and at home.

Chukwuma-Okoh urged parents to regularly inspect their children’s books and materials, emphasising the importance of keeping them academically engaged.

In addressing financial concerns, she suggested that school authorities consider allowing instalment payments of school fees to alleviate the burden on parents and prevent students from facing academic disruptions due to non-payment.

Mrs. Badejo Christiana, Director/Principal of Iponri Estate Senior High School, commended the Lagos State Government for its commitment to enhanced security in schools. She expressed appreciation for the deployment of personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to public schools, emphasising the positive impact on overall security.

Mr. Atoyebi Yekini, Principal of Jibril Martin Memorial Grammar School, Iponri, said studies had promptly commenced on the first day of the new term.

The Head Teacher of Ijero Baptist Primary School, Abule Nla, Iponri, Mrs. Kehinde Subair, lauded the ongoing renovation of school buildings. She appealed for additional teachers and furniture to further improve the teaching and learning environment.
