Top 10 women building innovative businesses in Lagos

In the spirit of celebrating women this month, we would be highlighting ten business women in Lagos doing amazing things in their various fields.

These ten remarkable women are building inspiring solution-driven businesses in tech, fashion, food and other industries.

They are not only shaping the economic landscape of Lagos but also inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs with their innovation, resilience, and leadership.

Oluremi Martins – She is the founder and CEO of Natural Girl Wigs. The company specializes in quality wigs for black women. Starting in Lagos, the brand has expanded globally, with the U.S. being one of its largest markets.

Martins is now developing Texture Science Lab, a hair lab located in Lagos. Its focus is on producing safer fibers and science-backed texturing formulations. Her company is ethically manufacturing hair extensions to provide women with a better hair experience.

Affiong Williams – She is the founder of ReelFruit, a Nigerian food processing company specializing in healthy and delicious dried fruit snacks. 

Their product line includes mango, pineapple, coconut, and banana chips, made using natural ingredients and traditional drying methods to preserve nutritional value and flavor.

ReelFruit is committed to empowering women and youth in rural communities through training programs and employment opportunities. It stands out as a leading player in Nigeria’s food processing industry, offering nutritious snacks while championing sustainable agriculture and community development.

Morenike Olusanya –  She is a visual artist and the co-founder of Bawsty, a ready-to-wear fashion brand. Bawsty specialises in creating beautiful and flattering clothes for women, particularly those with bigger busts. 

The brand was launched in 2023 with her friend, Damilola Onosowobo Marcus, with the aim of promoting inclusivity for fashionable busty women.

Inya Ajanaku – She is the co-founder of Aya Care Pad, a period pad she developed with her co-founder, Adriana Lica. 

The idea for Aya Care stemmed from a conversation with Lica about the high cost and low quality of sanitary care products in the country.

Aya Care is gaining popularity among women in Nigeria due to its unique pad design, which ensures zero leakage.

Damilola Olokesusi –  She is the Co-founder and CEO of Nigeria’s leading technology-driven transportation startup, Shuttlers. The company provides a platform to enable users book seats on comfortable, air-conditioned buses for their daily commute, offering convenience, safety, and reliability.

Olokesusi started Shuttlers to address the challenges of traffic congestion and inadequate public transportation infrastructure in Nigerian cities, offering a reliable alternative for daily commuters.

Ife Durosimi-Etti – She is a Nigerian entrepreneur and author, who owns two successful businesses. She is the co-founder of Parliamo Bambini, an indigenous Nigerian baby furniture company. The company came to life after she faced hassles having to import baby furniture from the UK to Nigeria when she had her first child.

Her second company, Herconomy, is a female-focused fintech startup which empowers women by giving them access to business grants, fellowships and scholarships.

Folayemi Agusto – She is the co-founder of Eat Drink Lagos, a blog which reviews dining experiences in Lagos for residents to visit. Her passion for this led to the establishment of Tix Africa in 2019, following the third edition of the EatDrinkFestival -a food and drink festival- in Lagos.

She is the CEO of Tix, a self-service ticketing fintech platform for event creators that aims to revolutionize the way events and experiences are ticketed and managed. 

Tix provides event organizers with a comprehensive suite of tools to create, promote, sell, and manage tickets for concerts, conferences, festivals, and more.

Jumoke Dada – She is an award-winning entrepreneur and founder of Taeillo, an online furniture e-commerce store based in Lagos, Nigeria, known for its unique and contemporary designs inspired by African culture and heritage. 

Taeillo’s product line includes furniture pieces such as chairs, tables, sofas, and bed frames, as well as other items like wall art, mattresses, wardrobes, storage boxes and clothing racks.

Hilda Baci – She is Nigerian chef, restaurateur, and the former holder of the Guinness World Record for marathon cooking with 93 hours 11 minutes set in May 2023. Her restaurant which is located in Lagos is one of the top food spots to visit. She also runs an academy, which organises training for people to learn how to cook delicious meals.

Victoria James – She is an award winning fashion designer and the founder of the Veekee James Fashion Brand and Erikan. Her fashion brand designs bespoke clothing for women and also men. Her collections are renowned for their impeccable craftsmanship, attention to detail, and innovative use of fabrics and textures.
