The police command in Lagos has identified the officer who shot a young man, Toheeb Eniafe, at a petrol station on Wednesday, May 1, in the Obalende area of the state.
The command, through its spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday, May 2, disclosed that the officer who killed Eniafe is attached to Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos.
SP Hundeyin stated via X: “The person behind the shooting has been identified as a police officer serving at Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos.
“Investigation is still ongoing and further findings will be made available.
“Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is working with the family of the deceased to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.”

Recall that reports had emerged of violence at fuel stations, with an unidentified man shot during a scuffle at an NNPC station in Obalende, Lagos.
There was also confusion about the identity of the shooter, with conflicting reports suggesting he may have been a policeman or a DSS operative.
An X user, Serah Ibrahim shared a video of enraged youths burning 2 Hilux vehicles belonging to the Police at Obalende as retaliation.
“The shooter fled the scene immediately, in a bid to escape.
“The youths in the area as an action (sic) to reciprocate the killing, burnt 2 Hilux belonging to Police/DSS. Currently, there is still a growing fire at the NNPC fuel station in Obalende and citizens are advised to stay safe and stay indoors until the situation is handled,” Ibrahim tweeted.
