Sanwo-Olu visits Alaro city
Governor Sanwo-Olu visited Alaro City and Universal One Development within the 16,500 hectare Lekki Free Zone on Saturday, showcasing the area’s investment potential. In a post on his official X page, Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating an enabling atmosphere for economic growth and development. He also noted that Alaro City is strategically located near the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the proposed Lekki International Airport. “Our city is a hub for economic growth and innovation; together, we will continue building a prosperous future for all,” he said.
First AI film to premier in April
Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu announced on Sunday, that Africa’s first AI-themed feature film, Makemation, will premiere in cinemas across Nigeria on Easter Weekend, April 18. The movie follows the story of a girl in rural Lagos and is backed by the state government. “Together, we are building a vibrant creative ecosystem that entertains, drives economic growth, and positions Lagos as a leading hub for the arts in Africa,” Sanwo-Olu said.
LAMATA to integrate biogas into transport system
The Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority (LAMATA), has revealed plans to integrate the use of biogas into the transport system as an alternative to the high cost of fuel and search for cleaner energy aside from CNG. Technical Adviser, Planning, LAMATA, Mr Osa Konyeha, explained that campaigns on the benefits of biogas are underway and it will attract the private sector, the News Agency of Nigeria reported. “With the amount of waste we have in Lagos, it is indeed feasible and viable to have biogas as a means of fuelling our public transport or regulated service,” Konyeha said.
Food aid for pregnant women
The state government has distributed food items to pregnant women in Health District IV, in a bid to ease the effect of the high cost of food in the country. According to the representative of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative and Political Affairs, Dr. Omotayo Babatunde, said that the government is committed to the welfare of pregnant women, infants and children as well as other vulnerable groups and will not leave any stone unturned to make their lives better.
NDLEA seizes cannabis induced candies in children’s store
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has uncovered a shipment of cannabis candies imported from the United Kingdom, meant for sale at a Kiddies Mart in Surulere. According to the NDLEA, one Adedamola Taylor, who was the recipient of the shipment was arrested after field test and forensic analysis showed that a strong strain of cannabis was detected on the candies. The arrested suspect claimed that the candies were sent to him by his UK-based brother.
King’s College suffers diphtheria outbreak
Parents of students at King’s College have expressed concerns over a diphtheria outbreak in the school. The contagious infection, which primarily affects the nose and throat, has reportedly led to the hospitalisation of several students, the News Agency of Nigeria reported. The parents urged the Federal Government to improve the school’s sanitation facilities.
Lagos meets with WHO and NCDC over diphtheria outbreak
The state government has met with stakeholders in the health sector, following the diphtheria outbreak in King’s College, Punch Newspaper reported. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, said that stakeholders including the World Health Organization and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, met on Sunday over the issue. “We are working on it,” she said.
Water pipes laid in Adiyan to boost clean water supply
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has said that an 8.1km stretch of 1600mm Diameter Ductile Iron (DI) pipes has been laid at the Adiyan premises to channel raw water into a new water treatment plant that will meet WHO standards. He revealed this on his official X account on Saturday, explaining how the project aims to provide clean, pipe-borne water to homes, schools, and businesses across the state. “We will ensure that clean, pipe-borne water flows seamlessly into homes, schools, and businesses—every single day,” he said.
Saboteurs are hindering rice production – Gbenga Omotosho
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, has said that some individuals are limiting the capacity of the Lagos rice mill in Imota, to produce rice for local consumption. He said some people even rebag them to sell to other states in the country.
LSETF to empower startups and women entrepreneurs
The state government is strengthening its position as a hub for innovation, providing startups and small businesses with the support needed to thrive, according to the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF). Speaking at the Impact Investors Foundation (IIF) event, Executive Secretary, LSETF, Feyisayo Alayande, said the state’s advantages include affordable workspaces, access to venture capitalists, and skilled talent. She also highlighted the Women Enterpreneur Fund (W-Initiative) which aims to bridge the financing gap for female entrepreneurs, The Nation Newspaper reported.
