Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced funding for the Purple Line rail project.
He made the announcement at the Africa Investment Forum Market Days in Rabat, Morocco.
“I am pleased to share that we have secured substantial funding commitments, as the Purple Line represents a viable investment opportunity with promising returns,” the Governor said. “We are excited to move forward with this project.”
The Purple Line rail is a 60- kilometer electrified rail system that will include 16 stations. The Line is designed to run through Redemption Camp, Mowe, Long Bridge, Isheri, Toll Gate, Omole, Ogba, Agege, Iyana Ipaja, Isheri Osun, Igando, Iba, Estate, LASU, Okokomaiko and Ojo.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said that it will seamlessly connect with the existing red and blue metro rail lines, as well as the BRT bus services to improve transportation and tackle traffic congestion.
It is also expected to serve over 300,000 passengers daily, to foster a shift from road to rail, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions significantly.
