Sanwo-Olu inaugurates 270 Flats at Egan-Igando Housing Estate

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated 270 two-bedroom flats at the Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate in the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area.

The project, part of Cluster One in the Ikeja Division, is set on 17.358 hectares and is the first phase of a larger development that will include 101 blocks of 846 units, offering one, two, and three-bedroom apartments.

In an official post via his X account, the Governor highlighted the project’s goal of providing quality housing for suburban residents and committed to completing the remaining units in Clusters Two and Three.

He further stressed the importance of residents maintaining and protecting the new facilities.

The Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme project

This project was initiated by the Lagos State Ministry of Housing in 2001. It involved constructing 33 blocks (18 in 1) of two-bedroom apartments. By 2002, most of the blocks had been abandoned at different stages of construction due to a lack of funds.

During his second term, former governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu transferred the project to the Lagos Building Investment Company (LBIC). This transfer was in partnership with the Ministry of Housing through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

After taking over the project, LBIC constructed Type A and B blocks.

However, the project stalled again. To increase the chances of completion, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to take over the project in 2013.

In 2016, the project was returned to the Ministry of Housing by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. The Ministry of Housing then divided the project into clusters for ease of completion.
