Sanwo-Olu announces 30% reduction in red line fares

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 30% reduction in the red line fare. He made the annoucement during the commissioning of the newly constructed terminal in Abule Egba on Tuesday. A trip between Agbado and Oyinbo, which would normally cost N1,500, will now cost N1,000.

Lawmaker lauds LIRS for one trillion revenue

A state lawmaker has praised the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) for generating over one trillion naira in 2024. Hon. Lukman Sa’ad Olumoh said the state has the capacity to generate over N5 trillion in internal revenue. “It seems we are only beginning to explore our revenue potential,” he said. “You cannot talk revenue projection without referring to leakages. You cannot talk without mentioning some sectors that we have not even touched at all.”

Rhodes-Vivour confirms 2027 gubernatorial bid

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has confirmed his intention to run for governor in 2027. He clarified his intention during an interview with Channels Television. He previously contested for the position in 2023 under the Labour Party, but did not clarify if he would remain with the LP or seek another political platform, Naija247news reported.

DSS threatens legal action against AIT and Channels TV over false reporting

The Department of State Services (DSS) has threatened to take legal action against African Independent Television (AIT) and Channels Television for allegedly misrepresenting their actions in their coverage of an incident that occurred on Monday at the Lagos House of Assembly, Punch Newspaper reported.

UNFPA to donate $5M annually for family planning

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with the Gates Foundation, has partnered with the Lagos State government to donate family planning commodities worth $5 million annually as part of a $25 million, five-year initiative. The program aims to ensure the availability of family planning services in Lagos, as well as two other states in Nigeria. “Lagos State is steadily becoming one of the key states where we can demonstrate the long-term benefits of domestic funding for family planning,” Head of the Liaison Office of UNFPA, Abigail Msemburi said.

Bullet train project to reduce Lagos to Abuja travel time to 2 hours

Nigeria’s first bullet train project, set to be completed within 48 to 52 months, will drastically reduce travel time between Lagos and Abuja from 12 hours to just 2–3 hours. The initiative is not only aimed at enhancing transportation but also at driving urban development. Ten smart cities will be developed along the rail corridor, each featuring 10,000 housing units. Additionally, an independent power plant (IPP) will be established to support operations, the Guardian Newspaper reported.

FRSC opens driver’s license printing office

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has activated a driver’s license printing facility in Lagos with a production capacity of 1,800 copies per hour and 9,000 in six hours. This new facility will streamline the licensing process and ensure a quicker driver’s license collection period for Lagos residents, the News Agency of Nigeria reported. While the driver’s database remains in Abuja, printing can now be done for applicants residing in Lagos State.

Marine police to patrol riverine areas

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has issued a clear warning to criminals and offenders in the state, outlining new crime prevention and control strategies. According to a report by the Nation Newspaper, specialized units, including the Marine Police, will patrol Lagos creeks and riverine areas. Jimoh also announced that the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has acquired gunboats and other equipment to properly equip the Marine Police.

First lady advocates for empowering boy child

The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, stressed the importance of equipping boys with the right values and mindset to tackle societal challenges such as peer pressure, cultism, substance abuse, and mental health issues at the three-day Lagos Boy Child Initiative (LBCI) residential workshop. Held at Lagos State Model College, Agbowa-Ikosi, in Ikosi-Ejirin, the event focused on self-esteem, personal hygiene, mental health, and drug abuse prevention, with over 200 boys aged 13 to 17 in attendance, PM News reported.

TESCOM urges teachers to include critical thinking in teaching

The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has urged Grade Level 13-14 teachers to incorporate critical thinking and problem-solving skills into their teaching methods to meet the demands of 21st-century education. TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, made this call at a capacity-building workshop for 300 teachers on Grade Levels 13-14, held at the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre (TSSDC) in Ikorodu.
