Protesters have reportedly blocked the Gbagada expressway this Monday morning in response to the tragic death of two Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) street sweepers by a reckless car driver.
The incident occurred at Charly Boy bus stop, where the sweepers were allegedly struck by the reckless driver who was being pursued by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority operatives, as shared on X (formerly Twitter) by commuters and residents.
A tweet from @mrabimbolah stated, “Two @Lawma_gov sweepers were reportedly knocked down by a danfo bus being chased by Officers of @followlastma at Charly Boy bus stop this morning. As a result, both sides of the road have been blocked by protesters.”
“It’s a private car, not bus driver,” @FizzyAy004 corrected in a tweet.
Another tweet by @Coded omoluabi mentioned, “It has extended to Ikorodu Road information from Bond FM. 9:53 am. The victims LAWMA Sweepers are siblings.”
While the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and Lagos Waste Management Authority have yet to confirm or release an official statement, police operatives are on-site to investigate the incident.
