Model college parents storm Alausa to protest against fees hike

Parents of students attending Lagos State model colleges on Thursday staged a protest at the government secretariat in Alausa over the recent hike in boarding fees, which has risen sharply from N35,000 to N100,000 per term.

The protest saw parents holding placards and chanting slogans, demanding a reversal of the fee increase, which they argue places a heavy financial burden on families already struggling with rising living costs.

Responding to the protesters, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, explained that the previous fee of N35,000 was insufficient to meet the demands of providing boarding services for a three-month term.

He emphasised that the increase was necessary to maintain the quality of education and facilities at the state’s model colleges, which are designed to offer a higher standard of education compared to other public schools.
