After months of extensive repairs, the Lekki Conservation Centre Walkway will be reopened to the public from Friday, 29th March 2024 ahead of Easter celebrations.
In a statement, the Lagos State Government and the Management of the Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC), announced the new development, noting that it will enrich the easter holiday experience for visitors.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, who visited the Centre in Lekki in company of staff of the ministry, noted that all repairs and renovations on the facility, including the Walkway, have been finalized.
Aregbe expressed appreciation to Lagosians and tourists worldwide for their patience while repair work was ongoing, noting “The completion of the maintenance signifies a significant milestone in preserving and enhancing the tourism potential of the Lekki Conservation Centre.”
The Director-General of the Centre, Prof. Mathew Onoja, commended the speedy response of the Lagos State Government to the viral video that had circulated in December, which resulted in the repair works.
He noted that the quick response was necessary to forestall any tragedy at the Centre, acknowledging the Centre’s key role as a major tourism asset in Lagos State.

Recall that in a viral video, a tourist called attention to the poor condition of the canopy walkway, noting that it posed a danger to tourists who visit the Centre. Some repairs had been carried out at the facility, but it wasn’t exhaustive.
The viral video sparked reactions online with many calling the attention of the Lagos State Government and the operators of the Centre to take action and fix the bad spot on the walkway. The government stepped in and ordered immediate closure of the facility in late January.
The management of the centre announced that the facility has been closed for maintenance and would reopen on February 1, but failed to open on that date.
The Lekki conservation centre was established in 1990 and covers an area of 78 hectares, serving as a major natural resource conservation area.
