Legislative profile: Temitope Adewale

 

Temitope Adewale, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents Ifako-Ijaiye 1 in the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.

He was first elected into the House in 2019.

Mr. Adewale is the chairman of the House committee on transportation.

Early life

The lawmaker began his academic journey at Chrisland Nursery & Primary School before moving to Government College, Ketu which he attended from 1993 to 1996.

He completed his secondary education at Ifako International Secondary School, between 1996 and 1999.

Mr. Adewale pursued higher education at the University of Lagos, obtaining a bachelor of science (B.Sc) in estate management, between 2000 to 2007. In 2016, he obtained a master’s degree in facility management.

Professionally, he has held several key leadership roles. From March 2006 to December 2010, he served as the chief financial officer (CFO) and co-founder of One Integrated Management Services, an entertainment-focused company involved in artist development, talent discovery, management, and event consulting.

From January 2009 to May 2019, he served as the president and founder of the Young Achievers Campaign Organisation of Nigeria (YACOON), a national campaign organization advocating for good governance in Lagos. 

Additionally, from 2012 to 2017, he was the managing director/CEO of Titan and Tulips Resource Ltd.

Political career 

Mr. Adewale’s public service journey began with several key appointments in Lagos state. From 2012 to 2013, he served as the senior special assistant on transportation to the former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola. 

He then took on the role of special assistant to the Governor on budget deliverables from April 2013 to June 2014. Then from April 2014 to May 2015, he was senior special assistant to the Governor on works and infrastructure.

In addition to his political appointments, Mr. Adewale held various administrative positions, including land officer at the Lagos State Ministry of Lands from April 2012 to April 2013 and revenue supervisor with the Lagos State Inland Revenue Services (LIRS) from 2011 to 2013.

His political career reached new heights in 2019 when he was elected to represent Ifako-Ijaiye I in the ninth House. He successfully secured a second term in 2023.

Legislative work

During his first term in the ninth House, Mr. Adewale served as the chairman of the transportation committee. 

Under his leadership, the House passed the Transport Sector Reform Law, which played a pivotal role in advancing the state’s transport infrastructure and services.

In addition to his role as chairman, Mr. Adewale was an active member of several ad-hoc committees within the House, further contributing to the legislative process and the development of Lagos state.

Beyond his legislative duties, Adewale has shown a deep commitment to education and social welfare in his constituency. He founded the Adewale Temitope Adedeji Educational Initiatives (ATA-EI) with the vision of making Ifako-Ijaiye the most educated local government area in Nigeria by 2037. 

Through this initiative, he has provided free JAMB and GCE forms to over 2,000 students, promoting access to education for the youth in his community.

In 2020, following the #EndSARS protest, Adewale demonstrated his commitment to social justice and support for his constituents by pledging a N10 million emergency relief fund for victims affected by the unrest in the Fagba area of Lagos state.
