The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has cautioned residents amid the notable increase in fire incidents in the state.
Director of the State Fire Service, Margaret Adeseye, attributed the rise in fire incidents primarily to negligence and delayed reporting, citing that in January 2024 the service received 251 emergency calls, with February showing no signs of abatement.
According to an official release on the State’s Fire and Rescue Service X’s account, on Tuesday, the Lagos State Government said it has intensified its fire safety awareness campaign across all local government areas.
Adeseye further urged residents to prioritise fire safety measures to mitigate the risk of outbreaks, particularly amidst the harsh harmattan weather conditions.
“In response to these challenges, the Lagos State Government is intensifying its fire safety awareness campaign across all local government areas. Key public spaces, including markets, hospitals, schools, and religious centres, are targeted for enhanced outreach efforts. Adeseye reaffirms the government’s unwavering commitment to preserving lives and properties. Religious centres are targeted for enhanced outreach efforts,” the tweet partly read.
