The Lagos State Police Command has issued a clarification regarding movement restrictions during Saturday’s by-elections, stating that only Surulere Federal Constituency I will be affected.
This clarification comes after an earlier, broader directive from the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, that there would be vehicular movement restrictions across 26 states, including Lagos, where the Independent National Electoral Commission will be holding by-elections on Saturday.
In a statement released today, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the restriction applies solely to the respective constituency.
However, within Surulere Federal Constituency I, restrictions will be in place for all roads except Funsho Williams Avenue.
Movement into and out of feeder roads off Funsho Williams Avenue will not be permitted.
Saturday’s bye-election in Surulere 1 comes after former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila transitioned to Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, leaving his seat vacant at the House of Representatives since 2023.
