The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, has immediately banned the use and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics.
This announcement was made by the Ministry Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
The decision is a response to the environmental issues caused by these non-biodegradable materials.
The tweet read, “Following the menace which single-use plastics especially non-biodegradable Styrofoam are causing on the environment, the Lagos State government (@followlasg ) through the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (@LasgMOE) is hereby announcing a ban on the usage and distribution of Styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the State with immediate effect.”
