The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has officially released a notice for the conduct of the Surulere Federal Constituency I bye-election, as mandated by law.
Mrs. Adenike Oriowo, the INEC Public Affairs Officer in Lagos State, confirmed to newsmen on Friday that the notice was posted on Thursday at the Commission’s headquarters in Sabo-Yaba and the Surulere Local Government Area Office for public viewing.
Oriowo further disclosed that INEC has initiated the necessary activities in the timetable for the upcoming elections, with preparations underway to ensure strict adherence to relevant laws and guidelines for a credible poll.
The spokesperson emphasised the commitment of the Commission to delivering a credible bye-election in the Surulere Federal Constituency.
The scheduled date for the re-run and by-elections, including Surulere Federal Constituency in Lagos State, is February 3, 2024. The timetable outlines that party primary elections, along with the resolution of disputes arising from them, will occur between January 5 and January 9.
Political parties are set to kick off public campaigns from January 18, concluding on February 1.
The vacancy in the Surulere seat arose due to the resignation of the former occupant, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who, after winning the in the general election, was appointed as Chief of Staff by President Bola Tinubu.
