The Lagos State Safety Commission and Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) are jointly working to enforce indoor smoking regulation at Nightclubs, Bars, and Lounges in the State.
This resolution was announced by Mr. Lanre Mojola, Director-General of the Safety Commission, and Dr. Tunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, during a safety workshop at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
At the workshop themed “Establishing A Safety Culture in The Night Life Sector in Lagos State,” both agencies addressed owners and operators of Nightclubs, Bars, and Lounges in the hospitality sector across the State.
“Lagos State will enforce indoor smoking at Nightclubs, Bars, and Lounges because it is high time we follow the law rather than doing business as we want it to be done,” Mojola stated.
He further emphasised the need for compliance with international best practices, suggesting that designated smoking areas be established within hotels rather than in public spaces where people are relaxing.
The enforcement of indoor smoking regulations is set to commence promptly, with forums like the safety workshop aiming to educate and inform stakeholders about conducting hospitality businesses in a customer-friendly and safety-conscious environment.
