The Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Fuad Atanda-Lawal has announced plans to introduce 200 electric mini-cabs as part of its 2024 empowerment program.

The announcement was made today by Jubril Gawat, the Special Adviser on Digital Media to the Lagos State Government, via Twitter.

Earlier in 2023, the Chairman had stated that the LCDA plans to “introduce electric vehicles EVs as a sustainable solution to combat high cost of transportation”.

“By embracing this innovative technology, we will reduce our carbon footprint, lower fuel expenses and contribute to a cleaner and greener future”, he said.

In a video posted on his Instagram handle (@fuad.atandalawal) on January 10th, he confirmed the rollout will begin by the first week of February 2024.

While the exact details of the rollout plan, including the timeline and eligibility criteria for the hire-purchase program, are yet to be made public, the announcement has already generated excitement among social media users.

Moreover, the initiative’s focus on sustainable transportation and community ownership sets a potential model for other local government areas in Lagos and beyond.
