The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the overpass at Oyingbo will bring permanent solution to the transport sector in the Lagos Mainland and environs.
Oyingbo overpass bridge is a major transit link between Lagos Island and the Mainland, ascending from Murtala Mohammed Way in Ebute Metta and dropping traffic into two separate arterial roads – Iddo and Costain.
At the Commissioning of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line Oyingbo overpass bridge and a bus park, the Governor said his administration was transforming the transportation landscape of Lagos.
“Today, we are opening another Overpass Bridge constructed to ensure safety of lives and uninterrupted flow of vehicular traffic at level crossings along the Red Line. This key project, which is the second of the five bridges undertaken by Lagos State Government along the rail corridor, has been delivered in Oyingbo, famous for being a thriving center of commerce.” He
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the intersection which connects Muritala Mohammed Way was critical to the entire state considering the location of Oyingbo in Ebute-Meta.
He added that the cowrie card would still be in use when the red rail line takes effect.
While commissioning the bridge the Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, who said Lagos State was a role model to other states in Nigeria advised Lagosian to take treasure from the good work of Governor Sanwo-Olu.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the government’s vision for transportation was sustainable, reiterating that Lagosians should own the massive infrastructure and maintain them.
On their part, the residents assured of zero tolerance to trading on the bridge believing that the bridge would bring total transformation to Lagos Mainland Local Government.
