Environment ministry dismisses “stinky” tag

The Lagos State Government has dismissed allegations that its environment is ‘smelly’.

The spokesperson from the ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Kunle Adeshina, dismissed this claims during an interview with a correspondent from The Guardian news, that the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) does its duty and is committed to maintaining cleanliness across the state by promptly collecting refuse and waste from various locations where they are found.

“For all I know, that is very far from the truth,” he said.

Adeshina further described these claims as a campaign from naysayers with the intention of downgrading the government’s efforts.

“I know it was one nurse that first said something like that but they can always have their say while we’ll always have our way,” The Guardian quoted him.

He stated that as part of the state’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, efforts were ongoing to educate the public on the dangers of littering drainages.

He also highlighted the government’s flood management initiatives, which include regular drainage maintenance and public awareness campaigns on the dangers of littering drainages. “Clogged drainages are responsible for flash flooding after heavy rainfall, and emergency teams promptly clear these clogs,” Adeshina said.
