Closure of Kodesho bridge, Ikeja

  1. Kodesho bridge closure

The Lagos State Government has announced that Kodesho bridge, Ikeja, will be closed for 30 days for repairs. Commuters are advised to plan their trips using alternative routes in the area, including access routes around Awolowo Way and Oba Akran.

2. New coaches for Lagos trains

The Lagos State rail network – the Red Line and Blue Line – are billed to have new coaches that would increase their capacity to deliver better and improve train services to Lagosians. This will include an electric rail system that would rapidly improve services and ensure a more sustainable rail system.

3. Sanwo Olu in China

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo is in China to hold talks with the Chinese government and contractors handling major transport infrastructure projects in the State. Some of the outcomes from the trip include new coaches for the rail lines and agreements for the construction of the 4th mainland bridge.

4. Lagos marathon

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon returns on February 10, 2024, promising an enthralling experience for participants in the 10km race. The race has continued to be a rallying point for Lagosians looking to keep fit and also an opportunity to explore the city devoid of traffic for just a day.

5. Ban on single-use plastic materials

The Lagos State government has placed a ban on styrofoam and other single-use plastic materials in the State, on the back of the environmental concerns posed by the improper disposal of the materials. 

The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources issued a three-week notice for the ban to take effect following consultations with representatives of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and Restaurant and Food Services Proprietor Association of Nigeria (REFSPAN).

6. More buses for free rides for students in Lagos Island

Three weeks after its launch and amidst overwhelming public support, the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LIELCDA) free school bus service is expanding with the addition of two new buses. Hon. Muibi Alade, the Executive Chairman of LIELCDA, announced the expansion in a statement,  acknowledging the “huge success” of the initiative.

7. Watch Nigeria vs S’Africa match around Lagos

Want to watch the Nigeria vs South Africa semi-final match this Wednesday? These locations have free viewing centres operated by the Lagos State government where you can catch up with friends and watch the match.

8. Primary health centres around Ikeja

The Record curates a list of primary healthcare centres across Ikeja where you can access affordable health care. The centres handle basic health needs and are managed by the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board.

9. Church fire

There was a fire incident at the Household of David Church, Ikeja, which destroyed the church main auditorium and other facilities. The Senior Pastor, Sola Osunmakinde said they would recover and bounce back stronger.
