Bill to convert LCDAs to LGAs reaches second reading in House of Reps

A bill seeking to upgrade 37 Local Council Development Areas LCDAs to Local Government Areas LGAs in Lagos passed its second reading in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The bill seeks to increase the total number of LGAs in the state from 20 to 57 and from 774 to 811 in the country, People’s Gazette Newspaper reported.

Ikeja Electric denies reports of employees involved in vandalism

Ikeja Electric has denied claims circulating on social media that two of its employees were caught vandalizing cables in the Lawson community. The electricity distribution company clarified in an announcement that the individuals in question are employees of Arise Business Link, a third-party firm engaged for debt recovery operations.

Commercial bus drivers threaten strike over NURTW rates

Commercial bus drivers, under the Agbarijopo Eko Drivers Association, have announced plans to embark on a strike starting next Monday. They cite what they refer to as an “irrational increase” in levies imposed by the National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW, which they say have left them struggling without profit, The Nation Newspaper reported. The association’s chairman, Comrade Mudashiru Opeyemi Sulaiman, urged the State Government to intervene, stating that the rising fees are severely impacting their livelihoods.

LASWA begins statewide waterways mapping to enhance safety

Lagos State Waterways Authority LASWA, has initiated the mapping of the entire waterways in the state, to enhance safety measures. LASWA’s General Manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, explained that the move would help to locate abandoned dredging pipes and remove them to avoid accidents, The Punch Newspaper reported.

Structures around Alimosho collector drain demolished

Operatives of the drainage enforcement and compliance department from the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources have carried out enforcement activities along Olakunle Ojo Collector Drain in Amje, Ajegunle, in Alimosho, by removing illegal structures in the area. Meanwhile, clearance operators at Abule Ado, in Amuwo Odofin Local Government cleared removed illegal structures and road-side street traders in the area.

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has empowered 78 entrepreneurs with disabilities by providing them with essential work tools and financial support to grow their businesses. Speaking at the financing and upskilling programme for entrepreneurs with disabilities, LASODA General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, said the initiative aims to make persons with disabilities (PWDs) active contributors to Lagos State’s economic growth rather than passive recipients of aid.
