Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents Ikorodu Constituency 1, at the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.
Popularly known as OGA, he is the chairman of the House committee on overseas investment and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He was first elected into the House in 2023.
Early life and education
Mr.Ogunleye is the son of Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, a former deputy governor of Lagos and household name in Ikorodu.
He attended Lagos State University (LASU) for his undergraduate studies in Economics.
However, the validity of his credentials have attracted some controversy. In 2022, a petition was written to police, calling for Ogunleye to be investigated over allegations of certificate forgery. It was alleged that he never graduated from LASU as his name could not be found on the school’s graduation brochure on the supposed year that he graduated.
However, evidence was found from the office of the LASU registrar that a notification of result was sent to Mr. Adetokunbo.
LASU’s vice chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Tunji-Bello, also affirmed that Mr. Ogunleye was a LASU student who graduated during the 1999/2000 session having spent six years in the university.
Political career
Before becoming a legislator, Mr. Ogunleye was a council mayor for 13 months in Ikorodu local government.
A former Action for Democracy (AD) leader in Ikorodu Division, Engr Amid Kunle Oduborisha, who recently defected to the APC, hailed Ogunleye for his outstanding stint during his 13 months as mayor.
Mr. Ogunleye was elected as House legislator representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 during the 2023 general elections, replacing Sanai Agunbiade, who had served for 16 years.
On what motivated him to vie for the position, Mr. Ogunleye said it was to empower his people. “My focus is to bring more projects to Ikorodu, and support legislation that is in the best interest of our people,” he said.
Legislative work
Ogunleye has facilitated the rehabilitation of several major link roads in Ikorodu Constituency 1.
Some of the road construction project include Oba Sekumade Road, Oba Oyefusi Street, TOS Benson Road, Ayangburen Road, Etunrenren Street, Banjoko Olowu Street, Alison Street, Ajenifuja Street, Olowosago Street, Kasali Onilere Street, Alh. Ogbara Street, Adeyeri Owuyo Street, among others.
“The successful completion of some of these major link roads has surely improved the ease of movement within our community,” Mr. Ogunleye said in a statement celebrating his achievement in office.
