In a swift response to an emergency call, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service on Thursday, April 4, successfully averted a potential disaster at the Hematology Clinic of the Pre-Pharmacy block in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
A tweep named Atigbi Emmanuel posted videos on his official X account showing the ICT room of the hospital engulfed in smoke, with people running for safety.
“Lagos State Teaching Hospital on Fire,” he wrote.
However, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye in a statement on Thursday disclosed that the fire was contained before it could escalate further due to the timely intervention of firefighters.
“The emergency alert was received at 14:22 hours on Thursday, prompting an immediate response from the fire service. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the responders, the fire was successfully extinguished without any casualties.
“While the immediate threat has been neutralized, an investigation into the cause of the incident is currently underway. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is dedicated to safeguarding lives, property and environment through proactive Fire prevention measures and rapid emergency response,” Adeseye stated.
