The Lagos State Police Command has clarified that a viral message circulating on social media about an increase in kidnappings along Gbagada Expressway is false.

A  version of the fake advisory seen by the Record stated that “the perpetrators are employing the One Chance method of targeting unsuspecting commuters” and advised that people “consider alternative routes or means of transportation.”

In a rebuttal statement issued by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin on Monday, the Command unequivocally denied releasing any such security alert.

“The claim that such a security alert was issued by the Lagos State Police Command is false,” the statement reads.

However, the Command says it acknowledges the concerns raised in the viral message and is taking proactive measures.

“That notwithstanding, the Command is not unmindful of the concerns raised in the alert,” Hundeyin continued.

“Consequent upon this, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni has ordered an immediate review of the security architecture of the entire area by affected Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders, in a bid to forestall such an occurrence”.
